Plymouth Hometown History - The Wilcox Essay Contest
Yearly topics are posted by October 1st with final essays due each spring. Visit the Essay Topic page to find out more, or email [email protected]
Jack Wilcox felt that Plymouth youth should know all about the history of their home town and have some familiarity with the historical research materials that are available through our rich local resources.
The Wilcox Foundation Board organized the Wilcox Essay Contest to encourage high school seniors to do just that. This opportunity to conduct research, meet people who contributed to the "Plymouth story", access documents through the Plymouth Historical Museum archives, and source photos and newspaper collections at the Plymouth District Library is one we hope they will find invaluable.
The essays will be carefully reviewed each year by our judges. In addition to awards based on merit, several essays are drawn at random each year. This allows every participant the chance to receive an award, as the true purpose of the contest is to encourage learning about the history of Plymouth and not necessarily provide awards to only the most technically perfect papers.
